@smartwarlord I know of several Jews of African descent who sometimes refer to themselves as either "African," "African American," or "Black." As for myself, I have a complex background, but mostly identify with being Ethio and Jewish.

@yurilane I believe in unity amongst all people, but it always kind of bothers me when people use the phrasing "Jews and African Americans," as if there aren't any African American Jews. I get what people are saying when they say it, but the Jewish people are so diverse that it really shouldn't make sense to say "Jews and African Americans" (or any other racial group of people). Maybe "Jews and non-Jewish African American communities" would be more accurate.

@beetleguy79, you are correct. There are genes that signify whether or not a particular person is from an ethnic tribe that GENERALLY tend to worship as Jews. So the religious aspect is a simple correlation, that's all. For example, I have the Ashkenazi gene due to one of my parents. But I am agnostic, meaning I don't worship or practice as a Jew. So I am not a Jew by religion, but hail from a group who generally practice Judaism. I do have an affinity for Jews though.
