I loved this song as a protestant previously. It's nice in theory, but it doesn't coincide with scripture very well along with 1st century Christian history. For those interested: 2 Thessalonians 2:15, "So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us." (Sola-scriptura is out the window - the people looked to the church spoken orally as well - think of the circumcision bishop counsel in Acts). Additionally, St. Ignatius of Antioch, bishop & student of St. John the Apostle, 107 A.D.: "Take heed, then, to have but one Eucharist. For there is one flesh of our Lord Jesus Christ, and one cup to [show forth ] the unity of His blood; one altar; as there is one bishop, along with the presbytery and deacons, my fellow-servants: that so, whatsoever you do, you may do it according to [the will of] God."" - “Where the bishop is, there let the multitude of believers be; even as where Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church” - St. Ignatius, student of St. John of the Apostles - An apostolic father of first century Christianity. We were never meant to go alone, and this was never "medication," but essential in the authentic apostolic Christian life. Some call it medication, but I would suggest studying up on scripture (Acts, especially - look for Greek words in it like 'kath holos', and the early apostolic fathers: St. Clement, Polycarp, St. Ignatius, Paul's outline of the roles of the church, etc. It's a total different Christianity that I had no idea of as a grown-up protestant. I think the problem in the modern day is we have 35,000 protestant denominations, and we're rightfully sick of it; that's more flavors than Basket Robins has to offer. With the information age, a lot of us are starting to look into the source of church history that's easily accessible to us, and it's a blessing by God's grace. The only real and essential "medication" I hope we do have is the Eucharist (John 6). God bless & peace be with you.

This guy is a real peron with a message. I was in to him when he was starting off with Caedmonds Call. They were good but at times over the top. I like Dereks realism.

A child of God is called by his election to be a member of a Body. I trust that Derek would gladly claim the title "church man", if by that you mean a believer who affirms the beauty of the Bride, and the individual believers call to be obedient and joined to that community. :)

He is not a church man he is a child of god. At least thats what i think. I am a child of God I claim no religion. Organized religion is a fraud

Oh Derek, I love you to death, I'm just not always crazy about your band... in this case how the keyboard player is running those lil sequences that don't match up to the tempo. The Ringing Bell is friggin awesome!

great song. it's one of those tracks on ISTUD that you glance over the first time, but then go back and realize what gold you've missed out on.
