The Gospel and The Law gives us guidelines for considering right and wrong. We can say with biblical absolution whether something is right or wrong, good or evil and I have heard Derrek saying similar on the subject of absolutes before. We can call something "evil" and be 100% correct but it doesn't negate God's ability to use it for his will.

No, actually I am not kidding. I have no idea who those 2 are. Do they sing songs about purgatory, the Apocrypha, and/or worshiping Mary as the sinless, co-redeemer?

Are you kidding me? You must not be a big fan of Matt Maher and Audrey Assad

This is my humble opinion, correct me if it is off base. Quoting the singer "we should not be afraid to call things wrong". That was the problem in the garden. Man wanted to take God's place and call things right and wrong, to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. There is no room for calling things good and evil. Even something as crazy as the holocaust. God had a purpose for it. And to blatantly say it was evil says God was wrong for allowing it to happen.

Nothing wrong with modern Catholicism? Com'n, Webb. Your time would be spent better writing songs about the unbiblical filth that comes out of that heretical institution than writing book review songs

@bdmenne I can confirm that Derek Webb does support Ron Paul. I spoke to him last night after a house show and tried to get a public endorsement on video. He's not doing it this time around. He still supports and loves Ron Paul though. He said that he wrote Dr Paul in during the general election :)

I hear that Derek Webb has supported Ron Paul. Can anyone verify this? Ron is a great man, that respects individuals and wants to preserve all Life and Liberty. End the Wars.

This is NOT about homosexuality. He is talking about the book The Prayer of Jabez and the Prosperity Gospel, that God is there to give you prosperity if you just pester him enough in the right way. The Wedding Dress is often compared in the Gospels to Baptism, whereby we are made white and clean by no ability of our own. Christ is compared to the Groom, and the Church the Bride.

@JamesHarmerMusic I think the language is also used to make a point though...yeah, it's unexpected, but I think he's trying to prove that people get upset about a curse word and ignore the real problems. At least, that's what I feel..

@rolltide16ns @rolltide16ns He isn't "commending homosexuality" in that song. He's criticizing Christians who are hateful. That is the point of the song... it is very clear, it is not meant to be written to all Christians though, just the ones who hate homosexuals, treat them harshly or unlovingly. I kind of think he may have went a bit too far with the language... but that's just my opinion. I sill respect him for speaking his mind, and speaking the truth.

For those who know scripture and the story of Hosea and Gomer, this song should sound familiar. In the book of Hosea, God tell Hosea to take a harlot as a wife. She practices harlotry after their wedding, but eventually Hosea/God take her back. This is the Gospel. While we were sinners (Gomer) Christ died for our sins. He will take His people out of harlotry, which is good news.

Did he just endorse the Roman Catholic church with its false gospel and idolatry? How can he write a song about 'the adulterous church' and in the same breath endorse the mother of harlots?

I was at this performance...the woman who shouts "Preach it brother" at the 2:51 mark was our assistant pastor's wife.

Oh No Not Derek! I though he was perfect!? Kidding He rocks! Honesty should rule! Darn shame is doesn't Ron Paul 2012 !!!

he wasn't commending homosexuality, he was condemning the hypocritical words that Christians or people who hate gays often employ. While Jesus calls us to love others despite their sins many still speak out in anger or hate.

wow, he speaks his mind well... I think that's what Contemporary Christian Music is about, honesty...of what we really believe in...

I think Derek Webb is right, but more important than that: What he said he said out of love. I think he truely wants what is best for the Church. @palepreach: Good explanation! @sirmovesalot17: Yes, there are many things wrong in the RCC today, BUT their great strength is that it can speak with ONE VOICE on behalf of half of all the christians around the globe! I think that should be an example of unity to all of us. And we should also look at ourselves as bigforrents already pointed out.
