The chorus here is one of the heaviest ever made by Depeche. The song feels pretty dirty and messed up. As a recovering alcoholic I can feel pretty fragile and wrecked sometimes. For a long time I only listened to music when I was drunk. It takes a time to come back to normal. I wonder if Martin had a backflash from the bands earlier tours when he wrote this song. Hearing the line "We are the dead of night" feels like it is a tortured memory from the bands past history of late nights with drugs, booze and shit.

I think DM is the best band ever. This song reminds me 2002, when I listened Exciter in cassette with five old beautiful bonus tracks and became Depeche Mode fan. Lithuania :)

Terrific track arguably the best off this Depeche Mode album, hardly any other band could make those lyrics sell the way they do, they are a lifelong monster of a band.
