pop music...respect to mute records

Here speaks the voice of reason

It's talking to me loud and clearly

And obviously, it's something to say

Here comes another sentence

It is relentless, it tries my patience

But neverless, it's for our concern

We can't see the benefits

So we'll ignore it or disobey it

And never say that this is fun

This is real fun

This is fun

Michael Jackson kept pop culture alive, at a time when the music industry almost died.

You talk shit. Good music is good no matter what genre. You may as well say the Beatles killed music. Thats how ignorant your comment sounds.

EXCELLENT TRACK

Preferred this to the A side when it came out. Great, pacey little number for its day.

Did Jackson ruin the market share, ot did Europe simply not have the chops to compete? I have no desire to stand up for Jacko, definitely not a favourite artist of mine, but it seems to me that it wasn't so much his 'fault' as the lousy knock-off artists who copied him. Jackson himself didn't become terrible until the Dangerous album.

I would tend to agree, though I think Introspective's my fave all up.

I agree, this is why my favourite PSB album is "Alternative".

I think you hit the nail on the head, but it was a lot more than MJ

It's a bit chicken and egg, innit? During the 70s you had some dreadful tripe packing the charts (Bay City Rollers, Rubettes, just about everything produced by Chinn and Chapman), but there were also amazing bands like King Crimson and then the wave of punk/new wave. The record companies didn't really react, instead they kept pushing disco - which was not aimed at teenyboppers. In the 80s along came SAW and turned everything good about pop back to shite again. Like you, grateful for good music.

I blame the teeny-bopper minded public that drive the music industry and get sucked into the latest "fad of the week", not the artists themselves. The music industry knows exactly where to put the emphasis and where they can make a fast buck..(or pound, or krone, or euro). I am eternally thankful to all those alternative and progressive groups that got me through the 70's.

I'm no fan of MJ (it seems to me that his greatest work Off The Wall and Thriller owed an awful lot to Quincy Jones' production), but to blame him for the current state of modern music seems harsh. It also ignores the fact that there was shite music before the synthpop of the 80s, as well as at the same time. Christ, the mid 70s were unbearable unless you listened to alternative music, and the 80s saw the rise of the SAW product line. Music companies are to blame, not one single artist.
