(Sweet Lullaby) I kind of really like the song when I first hear it 12 years ago. What I don't like is that, those so called professional musician did not give any credit or acknowledge the old lady who's voice and chanting was used. Sad to know, the old lady did not even knew that her chanting was stolen by some freaks for their own gains. Did those guys (Deep Forest) even thought about that when they were awarded the Grammy Award?

Michel Sanchez came up with the idea of mixing the native Baka pygmy spoken word with modern music after hearing on-site recordings of these tribes conversing. Along with Eric Mouquet they created the project Deep Forest. Their first self-titled album (nominated for a Grammy) was released in 1992, with "Sweet Lullaby" being the smash single which would put Deep Forest on the musical map (UK Top 10 hit). The song "Sweet Lullaby" is adapted from a traditional song from the Solomon Islands. The album Deep Forest was dance-driven and the samples were heavily digitized and edited. It was re-released as a limited edition in 1994 under the name World Mix.The original song is Afunakwa - Rorogwela and the story is the following: in 1969/1970, ethnomusicologist Hugo Zemp recorded a number of local songs which were released on an LP in 1973, as a part of the UNESCO Musical Sources collection. I'm a Solomon Islander and I know the story behind the song and who was organizing ethnomusicologist Hugo Zemp to get the chant from. This song is from the Solomon Island, from one of an Island called Malaita, Province from North-Malaita called Rorogwela. The song was sung by Afunakwa of Lau/Baelelea group. It was through Pasikale(guy from Malaita) who was liaise with the one steal the song and make money out of it.The Deep forest doesn't acknowledge him and Afunakwa. They put pictures from Africa as their background which is totally absurd and not even in-inline with the song too. Stealing other people's chants/song and make money out of it is not a way for professional idiot can do. This music is from my country, not yours freak..! Acknowledging someone is important as rules and regulations..Those crap "Deep Forest" never thank those who lend their cultural values of traditional chant. Now Pasikale is selling betel nuts back in our country, Afunakwa died without receiving any token of appreciation from those who steal her identity, whereas u people (Deep forest) make money out of our Solomon islands rich cultures and traditions..Find your grand-parents to sing lullaby to you! Not stealing others..!
