Deeds Of Flesh - Mark Of The Legion (2001)

1. Cleansed by fire

Apostasy, disbelief

Pure desolation of humanity

Demi-gods, the true monsters

And their dreadful multitude of massacres

Hypocrisy, insufferable unmercy

Deception, insufferable, inhumane

Led to slavery and torture

Appointing demi-gods, intrepid tasks

Immolating on its flame

Heathen martyrs burn away

Burn away!

Immolating on its flame

Heathen martyrs, cleansed by fire

The others soon faced

Unspeakable horrors

Incessantly tortured

Hypocrisy

Insufferable blasphemies

A reign on monsters

Worshipped blindly

Christians obsession with demons

Fostered what they tried to repress

Apostasy, disbelief

Pure desolation of humanity

Demi-gods, the true monsters

And their dreadful multitude of massacres

This is true. I still consider it a blast. It sounds like the same pattern, just slowed down. But what ever.

Cancer. Anyway James Murphy is a guitarist, not a drummer. ;) As far as blasting goes, it depends on your definition but I don't consider it blasting if the right hand is playing faster than the left (snare hand). That, I would call a thrash beat or a d-beat. Death had plenty of those, but not blast beats. But there were old school death metal bands that did, such as Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Suffocation, etc...

I thought James Murphy went to Athiest. Or no, was that Cancer? They did blast on the earlier albums, although it wasnt extreme blasting, it was old school death metal blasting. Not as fast, but still technically a blast.

i dont really consider it a breakdown (at least by todays standards with the shitty core band breakdowns) but everything about this band is heavy

Death had several drummers, and none of them blasted. They did not share any members with Atheist, but for one album they did have two members from Cynic (Masvidal and Reinert), and Cynic shared a bassist (Tony Choy) with Atheist.

Technical deathmetal isn't "old school". It's only been around in this form for the past nine years or so.

I think old school style hadn't such fast blastbeats :P But i know what you mean, it beats grindcore in the face and all the other corebands.

I like Deeds cuz it's more than just brutal death metal. They weave a complex song through progressive guitar playing. The lyrics bring me back to a more primitive place where the strongest survive. It took me awhile to get into them. They have raised the bar, when I listen to new bands, I just don't feel the heart like Deeds. Path of the Weakening was my first.
