The studio version of Goin' Home, from the movie "It Started with Eve". (Those of you "in the know" will recognize the melody as the second movement of Dvorak's "New World Symphony".)

In contrast to this song "Going Home", which is sung very slowly and deliberately; the song "Clavelitos" which Ms. Durbin did earlier in this movie, is done at an extremely fast and furious tempo, as well as being sung in Spanish. Both are sung remarkably in their own ways, and goes to show just how amazing was her versatility.

This was my grandmother's favorite song and now my favorite aunt plays it on her white baby grand piano. Can you guess what I want sung/played at my funeral?

Dvorak's New World is the greatest piece of music not necessarily for its structure nor any technical superiority but because he has crafted an arrangement for the old spiritual such that you cannot _not know it's about going home. and therein lies the task of art: the emotional bridge from artist to audience.

The music, the words, and the singer go straight to my heart.

@Chrisiant Indeed the song has brought tears to many eyes. Another moving rendition of it occurred in April, 1945, in Warm Springs, Georgia, when President Roosevelt had died, and Graham Jackson played the music on his accordion and sang the words.

I don't know whos version I like more. Her version or Chloe Agnews version. her version is more operetic while Chloe's is more innocent

One of the very few pieces I can still play on the piano. I want this sung at my memorial service. Check out the Jane Froman version. This song always brings me to my news and into a pool of tears.

violinthief- Bravo for you. The Met begged for her services when she was but a young teen, but that was not what she wanted. As for her voice-it was up there with the very best.

Dvorak would certainly approved of this! Brava!

I remember her first as an actress; but,on reflection, I can see how she shared those extraordinary inner qualities of the Diva... Thank you.
