This was on the WHYN Springfield Mass. Top 56 survey the week of 7-14-62. I vaguely remember it, but hearing it 52 years later, it really stands out as a wonderful song that should have been a much bigger hit.

Joe was at a few stations and when he went on the road to do a dance party or gig, he wrote his name all over most of those records unless he had two copies. I always wondered if that would make them more or less valuable - he took care of them, that's all I know.

I know this was asked three years ago but I just found it. I worked with Joe THomas at a small market station in Santa Cruz in the late 80s, really, really nice man. I bought his record collection from him when he wanted to move to L.A. to take care of his Mom and he just didn't want to haul those records around anymore. Score for us both - his records have a good home and he didn't have to move box after box.

Chuck Stevens was good on the air, but when Joe Thomas was on WHIM I think he was amazingly great. His tech skills were minimal, but his musical taste was superb (he picked a lot of his own extras) and he had a great and very sardonic sense of humor. I was just in RI again this weekend; there's no place like it; even if it isn't the same as it was 40-50 years ago, it's still Rhode Island! Heck, where else can you drink a cabinet?!?!?

Oh YES! Actually I have 3 copies of this, that's how much I liked it. I remember exactly where I was, The House Of Bargins, Warwick, RI. in 1967. Try to picture, two 4x8' tables with a heaping mound of 45s for 25 cents ea. When I think back & think of what I passed up, that's what kills me, can U imagine what them 2 tables contained in 67, I can't? U may want to see all my other 15 D. Hawley's I posted, check out Stay At Home Blues & Like A Fool, some nice photos of Deane & his daughter.

Are you speaking of Credence Clearwater Revival? Just curious, what does this have to do with Deane Hawley?

I don't remember the laughing. I had got to the point in time where when he'd come on I would turn him off. Knowing Chuck he probably did that so no one would tape the Elvis tunes. I would hate when he'd take request, they would request the same old shit, Magic Touch, Lion Sleeps, Splish Splash, Duke Of Earl, etc.. Me I wanted to hear the flips or the uncharted tunes, you know, something we never heard before that was mega great!

Good old Chucky! What an arrogant person he was, not only on the radio, but even in person. Is he still alive?
