Dean Martin had this segment where he was seated at the couch, no funny business, but Dean just doing what he did better than anyone:SING! It's songs like this one that they don't write anymore. A different culture produced this song, for when Kern bridged the gap from operetta to Broadway, he also took along his beautiful conception of romance, as evidenced by this lovely song, and it's lush musical beds and harmonics. Dean had quite a career as a singer for Reprise records and he always sang in the early days. The Cabaret world still continues the tradition of singing beautiful love songs. Singers like Rod Steward also realize the worth of these songs and have made beautiful albums singing these types of songs! In my opinion, when Dean is in one with a song, he is fabulous!
