Matt , my answer to that is try best to keep that butter sweet tone on the high strings but eq out some of the bass on your 6th and 5th strings, this way in my experience the tuning will not conflict with the big fat bass sound in the mix.. The other way to get away from this in a mixing application having the bass guitar set to the right or left (panned in the mix) will give the depth and stage effect of those low bass frequencies are not near the stereo guitar or even better the guitar slightly panned opposite from the bass. For example the bass at 11:00 and the guitar at 1:00. Hope this helps, lovely sweet emotion , for a moment I thought I heard Chet Baker phrasing and he is a master at phrasing in my eyes.
