Does anyone know the real answer to this question ?Info on the net is confusing. Did Bowie get off the train at Warsaw Gdanski or Warsaw Zachodnia ?..Most info suggests he got off at Warsaw Gdanski and then walked to what is now named Plac Wilsona and bought a Polish vinyl record. However, it is not clear what road he walked along to Plac Wilsona. I walked up the steps and over the bridge from Warsaw Gdanski along the main road all the way to Plac Wilsona, walking by a tram track. It takes about 20 minutes.Other reports suggest Bowie turned right from Warsaw Gdanski and walked about 5 minutes up to what is now the Arcadia Shopping Centre. From there he walked a different route to Plac Wilsona.I made enquiries at both Arcadia and Plac Wilsona but none of the locals could be precise. Infact hardly anyone knew about Bowie's visit at all.One guy suggested that the record shop, now demolished was in what is now the Arcadia Shopping Centre.

The Abhorred Dread

Anyone know of any other songs by Bowie or other artists that have a similar feeling to this or Subterraneans?

Bowie copied the part of main melody from the "Helokanie" by Hadyna, which he heard on the vinyl he bought in Warsaw - watch?v=WPAOkWDxz7U

Perhaps these instrumentals or near-instrumentals reflected the contemplative nature of the bigger stars of the 70s. This one was from 1977. Elton John had Song For Guy around the same time. And Abba had done Arrival in 1976, being the title of their album in that year. Sometimes the music comes before the words, in the song-writing process. But just occasionally, the music alone suffices.

this song seeps into your bones like cold steel. Orwellian soundscape. an echo chamber of absolute authoritarism framing & suffocating a culture. think of a steel crucible Face w/ a melancholy cello inside. murmoring ever so faintly Chopin. this is the impressionistic reflection wh/ will stand thru the ages for anyone who wants to understand the psychic wreackage that eastern europe endured the cold war.
