Suffused with an atmosphere of mysterious sweetness, wonderful Bowie's ballad that paints a hermetic landscape observed from the Space, even if using earthling language, for trying not to define Mankind so as already showed itself... "A Reality Tour".

I know that you are a passionate musician, original, with a beautiful channel: thanks for this important information that, perhaps, is not particularly known. I don't know the exact reason why Bowie chose not to play in this magnificent song personally, but I know that he (being a perfectionist) does nothing to chance. From what you say, probably in this case we did not have the opportunity to appreciate his skill, but thankfully David is back ... who knows.I reciprocate the greeting with best wishes.

Hi ! I can see that there's a lot of comments, so I write this just like that : I'm stonished not to see Bowie playing his 12-strings Takamine, cause he's a great rythmic player. And when the rythm guitar must be really well played, he doesn't let it to anybody but him. I've read in an acoustic-Guitars magazine an article that was named "Bowie, the genious of pop and Rock music, the acoustic unknown guitarist". Just after having read that article of 2 pages, I've put a DVD (got 5 DVDs or VHS of Bowie, with shows or interviews), and took care of that fact, and they were right, When he takes his guitar, it's always very well performed. But anyway, a good video. Thanks for sharing. BYE !

An utterly beautiful rendition of this great song. I love the Reality Tour arrangement with the long piano outro.

It seems that we only use 10% of our brain, by which get an idea of this reality in all its mysterious depth is perhaps a big naivety. But geniuses, artists, poets invite us to a higher state of consciousness, intimate, which is multidimensional: energy for a different individual perception yes, but more refined and closer to the Superconsciousness and so... perhaps be able to penetrate some secrets reigning in the Heart's vision of the One. Thank you!

In my opinion, this is David Bowie's most underrated song. It's actually my favourite song! But unfortunately, it was shadowed over by many other great songs! :( Quicksand is one of his best songs, but unfortunately, it didn't become a hit! He has plenty of songs songs that had deserved to become as popular as Changes, Life on Mars, Starman, Ziggy Stardust, Rebel Rebel, Young Americans, Ashes to Ashes, China Girl and all them!

I respect your opinion, especially because you're a musician. This doesn't mean, however, that isn't debatable... I don't agree that Bowie "lost his range long ago": as with everything in life there is a becoming, such as a deeper voice and more rich warm tones. The purpose of music relies on a harmonious whole that should have the power to communicate from soul to souls (although today, unfortunately, the cold technicality is in foreground). DB has this power. Thanks for the comment.

Guess Bowie lost his range long ago - this is in an totally different key to compensate for his voice - sadly with this performance he "ain't got the power"

Who wouldn't feel their age ... on tour. Tiring. But wonderful.

Actually the very best version of this song is the demo version that's a bonus track on the Ryko Edition of the "Hunky Dory" CD. This song works much better at barebones of just guitar & voice.

A masterpiece, a concept-song full of questions based on a substrate highly cultured. The central melody is poignant: if nevertheless lightens the text sinuously, at the same time helps make it even more melancholic. Bowie not only sings, interprets from his depth. It's manifest the intense feeling on every note, every word... he lives every time in each one. Morover, DB here was on 2004, maybe very stressed for many Tours, close to the crisis. Perhaps you've caught this vibration. Thanks.

I love this song! It has to be one of his best (in my opinion). I didn't know he sang it during the Reality tour. Thank you so much for this very beautiful, heart-felt performance. Cheers!

This is such a wonderful song. In every period where he performed it (not too often, though). That whole show is great, but he seems a bit sad to me, I don't know.

@Scoobydoonut We strive to live division between positive and negative, a human drama, thus losing the unpredictable. Fatally, we don't remember that Lucifer would be metaphor of the brightest Star in the Morning (confused with Satan). From the Hermetic tradition, conflict is the evolutionary tool used by rare minds capable of withstanding among ruins, seeing light in darkness, creation in destruction, life in death, thus conflict's reconciling in Love. Probably you're one of these ones.

@rmberry7 Garson is a pianist of high class, very refined for his thick of Jazz musician, able to expand in every genre. Mike is exceptional even in live performances, for his great ability to surprise with a sound definition that is a perfect complement to the eclecticism of David: is clear a mutual understanding, deep, cause the basic affinities which they share and the freedom to express themselves with Soul. From Aladdin Sane, to Outside, to Earthling, without Garson..... Many thanks.

@VampireBowie Perfect synthesis, TY. Man, this Infinite. Asexual, DB wonders seeking horizons beyond limits of coagulated matter (from the Universe, not in an Earth condition) to find definitions elusive to mediocre ones. The mutant faces life chaos with values, accepting the "sunset-power"; Superman is "sea in which one can lose great contempt": "man is a bridge, not a means" (Thus Spoke Zarathustra). Quicksands, with the risk of replicating in the next Bardo (The Tibetan Book of the Dead).
