who the hell is the soul-less nimrod who voted this thumbs down? Really, who? I want to talk to you about Music. I will volunteer to give you the best musical education money can buy, genre buy genre, because you must be troubled or took too much ecstasy and fried your emotional response mechanisms in the brain.

... Sal was home, she was baking bread this morning, Sal was home, she was a-baking bread this evening, Sal was home, she was baking bread, when she heard the news that Bill was dead, This morning, this evening, so soon. She said, "Oh no, that can't be so this morning, Oh no, that can't be so this evening, Well oh no, that can't be so, my Bill left here about an hour ago" This morning, this evening, so soon. ...

... Oh well they brought Bill home in a hurry-up wagon this morning brought Bill home in a hurry-up wagon this evening, They brought Bill home in a hurry-up wagon, well poor old Bill how his toes were a-dragging, This morning, this evening, so soon. Well tell old Bill when he comes home this morning, Tell old Bill when he comes home this evening, Tell old Bill when he comes home, to leave them downtown gals alone, This morning, this evening, so soon.

Another singer who could go from "grit to gravy" was Hoyt Axton. His Thunder 'n' Lightnin' album was friggin treat to the ears. His version of Blue Prelude... oh, man.

There's very little connection btwn Waits' music the last 30 years and Van Ronk's music. And there's a huge gulf btwn Reed and Diddley. They both generally talk rather than sing, but that's about it. And Reed did actually sing a little with VU.
