Whether we acknowledge it or not we can't help but to have sensitive souls and that's the beauty of this song. what did jesus get after 3 days in the ground? salvation.. it sounds as if dave knows or atleast had some sort of revelation that he can only get salvation from the bartender, God and from nowhere else not our actions and not by anything else only the grace of God gives salvation. This song speaks distress and he knows where he can get relief.. i like this song alot.

@11Kukulcan The symbolism doesn't go beyond what I suggest in my opinion. And claiming it does, I feel, is looking for something that simply isn't there to address your own dissatisfaction that Dave might have written what can be taken as a religious song. To be clear, I wasn't claiming that Dave believes these ideas/is religious. But the bartender does represent God—Dave has said as much. You don't have to be religious to write what comes across as a spiritual song (see: Mumford & Sons).

@theeponym The song is very deep....most of Dave's songs are.....most people just dont bother to listen to the words...I have followed him since the mid 90's.....I used to see him twice a year every year until I fell ill..his songs have meaning.they arent bee bop songs....they arent about killing cops or gang banging....they are about things that everyone can relate to.....as far as the reference you speak of, I dont know what song you are talking about I would guess he is pleading with Jesus
