Seventh of a fourteen track set-list that was filmed & recorded in a home-made studio that I designed and built entirely by myself. Wuh-pah!

The seventh one. Big Will is one of my favouritist people on the planet, for sooooo many different reasons. But anyway, this tune is an absolute cracker, and I really wanted at least one Will Smith track on the setlist. "Switch" and "Party Starter" were originally on the setlist (before Miami), but I fet that the drums I made for them were too clichéd hip-hop beats (specifically for Party Starter). I used to have a collection of his songs during my "Will Smith Workouts", where I basically worked out with Will Smith tunes pumpin' in the background; and through this I actually realised that I could make decent drums for 'Miami'.
Fun Fact; the drums were filmed in August 2013, but the "rap" thing wasn't filmed and added until November 2013, which is why I'm wearing a hat (as my hair was a hell of a lot longer).
Drum Talk:
Now for the fun stuff. The dominant beat throughout the song is 8th notes with off-beat accents and a four-to-the-floor kick drum pattern, this is a hellalot more fun to play than the standard quarter-note off-beat (which i really despise cos it's the one of the most overused beats that has thus been rendered unoriginal). Although a lot of my drumming doesn't feature many fill-ins or unnecessarily drum parts, I added the beat variations where I felt it fitted with the song and the lyrics. I've realised that my drums quite often play off the lyrics/ rhythm of the lyrics, #OhTheLolz
The chorus is my favourite part to play. The main quarter-note offbeat is played on the tambourine with the right hand, whilst the left hand comps by playing the same rhythm (but with double hits) on the hi-hat. Then towards punchline of the chorus, "I'm going to Miami" etc, the hand patterns change. The tambourine hits reflect the dominant words in the lyrics, and the left-hand continues comping but with a developed rhythm to add variation before the chorus resolves. I genuinely think I think about drums too deeply. But whatever, it's how I make my drum parts.

I just wanna straight-up say that I do pre-write my drum parts for the studio, and if I went into the studio to record this with big Willie style, these are the drums I would have played and recorded. I really dislike unnecessary drum parts (pointless fills etc) and my main goal is to 'serve the song'. Aiight.

I'd like to thank one of my best mates Ruairi Grew for helping me with the artwork, lighting, camera angles, video mastering, and teaching me how to do them so that I can competently do them by myself.

Tech talk:
There are no mics visible because I record the video and audio separately, and I think it's silly to have them out just "for show" because of numerous impracticality reasons. I also only own two cameras, so my performances are pieced together from multiple takes (usually two from each angle).
Also, no triggering, layering, or any of that fancy stuff was used. This is a 166% acoustically recorded mix that was recorded, mixed, mastered, filmed, edited, and mastered entirely by myself. I don't think it turned out woeful, but some people might disagree.

My t-shirt says "Just Bring It", and is a quote from the iconic and dominant "If Ya Smell What The Rock Is Cookin'", aka Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
The official t-shirt was part of the WWF merchandise during the 'Attitude' era. Nowadays you can probably buy it, or a version of it, at many online retailers.
Check out some of The Rock's official clothes and his other merchandise at the WWEstore:

And check out his facebook and twitter pages, I love them:

Fun Fact:
The Rock's, "If Ya Smell" titantron entrance theme song is my ringtone. And as a result, every phone-call I receive is epic.
**Disclaimer, one of my friends had it as his ringtone before me. I just thought it was the single greatest ringtone ever.**
