Daniel Lanois is one of the most famous producers and brilliant minds in the history of rock and roll. It was direction at the helm of U2's "Unforgettable Fire" and Peter Gabriel's "So" that made them both all-time classics. He is also responsible for the incredible atmospheric vibe of Bob Dylan's masterpieces "Oh Mercy" and "Time Out Of Mind". He truly is rock music's equivilent of a Martin Scorcese or Stanley Kubrick.

I totally see why you recognize a bit of Knopfler in this guy, not only the guitarplaying but even the voice reminds me of Mark! Really like him, haven't seen much yet but I think I'll be looking for some more.

I can see why you may say that due to the way he uses his fingers, but he is by his own admission more influenced by Jimi Hendrix.

No need to feel badly. He is responsible for producing a few pretty well known albums: Achtung Baby - U2, 1991 The Joshua Tree - U2, 1987 Fever In Fever Out - Luscious Jackson, 1996 Time Out of Mind - Bob Dylan, 1997 Teatro - Willie Nelson, 1998 All That You Can't Leave Behind - U2, 2000
