Daddy Won't You Please Come Home( LYRICS LISTED) by the High Hatters 1929, a popular group from the roaring 20's, and recorded from the original, VERY WORN, 1929 Victor 78 RPM record. This was the very popular upbeat version in 1929 with a more danceable beat. A slower version of this song by Annette Hanshaw was used in the game BioShock 2. Played on a Dual 1229 turntable. LYRICS TO THE SONG Night after night I'm cryin' daddy won't you please come home? Daddy won't you please come home, I'm so lonesome. No one can fill that vacant chair, home isn't home when you're not there. No need to knock, the door is open for you sweet daddy. Even the clock keeps tickin', daddy won't you please come home? Daddy do you have to roam so very long? There are lots of other new sheiks who would like to be sheiken, haven't slipped yet but I'm liable to weaken.. Daddy daddy won't you please come home.

Yes it is a Dual, and your record is somewhat of a one of a kind. There are High Hatters Cds available, but this song is not on any of them. The 78 version you found is about the only source so far for this song by The High Hatters.

Nice recording, I just found this same record today. Is this a Dual turntable?

Thanks for this interesting post-quite a jazzy one for The High Hatters. According to Brian Rust's Jazz Records A-Z the vocalist is Belle Mann.

Ive been listening to the video of this version of the song for a while now and i love it. about a week ago, i was at a record show and found this for sale in a bin for 4 dollars in E condition and snatched it up immediately. a great find, and the song on the fip side called "Takes You" is also good.

@assymcgee1 Ebay is the best bet for 78 records. This song on 78 is 82 years old, and there are not very many around anymore. . Sometimes thrift stores and estate sales are good places to find old 78s.

@maynardcat The Annette Hanshaw version is actually what I am seeking, but I cannot find the 78 for the life of me, if you could point me to a Annette Hanshaw version 78 then I would be so greatful :) but if you cannot then thank you for trying ^^

@assymcgee1 This is the only 78 version by the HIgh Hatters that I have ever run across. The song is also not available on CD, but the Annette Hanshaw version is. There is a High Hatters CD, but this song is not on it. I would suggest checking ebay as there are High Hatter 78 records listed from time to time, but I've never seen this song by the High Hatters on ebay so far, but one may surface some day.

hey, I am looking for this 78, any idea where I can get one (the song is all that is important to me, as I love bioshock and have an antique phonograph to play it on)?

@ThePeaceableKingdom I have tried searching for a High Hatters CD, and only found one, and this song was not listed. I guess I will have to be extra careful with this record, as so far it seems to be one of a kind. I don't recall the name of the singer listed on the record, but will check it again sometime, and if it is listed I will add it in the information box

I return to this posting yet again. Thanks for posting this. This is the only example of a recording of "Daddy Won't You Please Come Home" by the High Hatters I've ever heard. And (acknowledging Hanshaw, et al) despite being quite worn it's magnificent! Has there ever been a voice more jaded, more full of ennui (she just took the Wrigley's out of her mouth) - yet more full of yearning - than the un-named singer who accompinied this 78rpm psuedonymous recording... It's one of the greats!

@goatface1000 Thanks for that info as people from time to time do ask what the lyrics mean

ShitFromShinola: Great to learn that you are still playing guitar at 117. Perhaps we should get together and make a video for posting on YouTube. I am 173 (will be 174, Dec 25th, same as Santa), and I play the trumpet.
