The Indian called this land Uncompahgre, and the snow covered peaks were great spirits, to be worshiped, and feared, and loved... the spirits were very old, and they had fought many wars with the eternal winds, and the ageless rivers of ice, but still they remained, awesome, alive, and hauntingly beautiful... these were no mere hills... these were the towering,battle scarred summits of the San Juan. I have never seen the mountains around Ouray CO. I have heard that they have a special feel to them. My father found that feeling in the desert of West Texas. He lived and loved that area for 57 years.

I was 8 yrs old when this album came out. This song caused me to stop and think then (an 8 yr old boy!!) and I still stop what I am doing and listen. Love this song
