This album is a sort of Acid Test in a studio.

I love early dead songs. Has the country Joe and the fish psychedelic feel.

Thanks for posting! First time I've heard this version. The studio version on the WB lp fades out early in the closing guitar solo. Jerry's solo is rather unusual for him, with some eastern-sounding licks toward the end that remind me of more avowedly psychedelic bands like the elevators. It's not quite true that, as the Dead said, this record didn't capture their live sound. Listen to some shows from the time and you'll hear a lot of fast tempos and some short songs. Problem was Lp length precluded long jams on songs, on a debut studio record, anyway

Dude, I grew up in super-ultra-industrial Pennsylvania. Then, I lived in Florida for about 3 decades. Then, I made it to the Pacific Northwest in my mid-50s. This place! The Left Coast is the place to be! Oregon, Washington and lower southwest Canada want to form their own country: Cascadia. I'm down for that! Where I'm at (major city) is like hippies in the hills, baby. The 1960s live! Dang, I love it so much. Much of America is actually okay, but this place is special. Peace.

Hi. Great music - wasn't (isn't) it?! This tune features great melody infused with great improvisation (like great Jazz). Best to you (and all) this Christmas 2012 season (and in 2013). -- Mickey

The intro sounds a bit like The Leaves' version of "Hey Joe." My opinion, of course. This is The Grateful Dead at their best. Send a sweet cream puff (and some roses) to someone you love on this Sweetest Day 2012.

The early Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Love, and Moby Grape did it for me back then.
