It's taken me over 20 years to decide, but I think this is my favourite Cream song. I can't put it in words so I will leave it there.

I am not a musician (although, "my dad was a piano mover"...Groundhog Day), but I am constantly amazed at the energy delivered by these Power Trios. I grew up with Cream, CSN, and The Jim Hendrix Experience. Later on Rush took the energy of power-trio to a whole new level. Why does it work so well? Fewer egos? Greater musical intensity? Please tell.

There's a bleakness in Jack's voice that Pete Brown's lyrics bring out. The Brown/Bruce compositions are what gave Cream a dimension no other heavy blues bands could match.

Jack's tone on his bass is different here than on some of the live recordings of this song that I've heard. He seems to have it EQd for more clean fundamental and less midrange harmonics.
