A few days ago, I finally received my copy of Sabaton's new live DVD, "Swedish Empire." I have been watching it nonstop since, to the point where I felt inspired to cover one of their songs. All their songs are epic as hell and worthy of covering, but I decided to tackle "The Cliffs of Gallipoli," from their album The Art of War. "Cliffs," aside from being a straight-up awesome epic metal song, is a favorite of mine because it pays homage to one of the bloodiest and most futile battles of the World Wars, the Gallipoli Campaign of World War I. Joakim's lyrics are awesome (and are some of his most emotional) and give me chills every time I listen to the song, so I decided to include them in the video as an overlay. Hope you guys enjoy my take of Sabaton's classic song!
Lyrics:
Hear them whisper voices from the other side
Hear them calling
Former foes now friends are resting side by side
They will never leave our hearts or fade away
Live forever
They were far too young to die in such a way
How many wasted lives? How many dreams did fade away?
Broken promises, they won't be coming home
Oh mothers wipe your tears your sons will rest a million years
Found their peace at last as foe turn to friend and forgave
And they knew they would die...
Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life
Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust
Hell is waiting where the ocean meets the sand
Cliffs of burden
Where the soldiers rushed into a certain death
At the shoreline blood of heroes stains the land
Light a candle
One for each of them who fought and died in vain
There is no enemy, there is no victory
Only boys who lost their lives in the sand
Young men were sacrificed their names are carved in stone and kept alive
And forever we will honour the memory of them
And they knew they would die

^A thing my girlfriend and I do together. I happen to really proud of the stuff we've put out, super ambient stuff. Makes for very relaxing night listening, I like to think. We've covered material from bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation, and we're in the process of writing our first original album together.

About me: I'm a 19 year old guy (18 when this was recorded) who plays piano, guitar, drums, bass, tenor sax, french horn, and mandolin. I've been studying piano for 12 years, and I've been playing the others, self taught, for a few years. I mainly play metal (especially melodic and progressive stuff, but I'm into everything), jazz (modal jazz and fusion in particular), classical, classic rock, pop, and lots of other stuff. And listening wise, I'm all over the map... I honestly listen to and can appreciate everything out there.
Friend me on FaceBook; I'm always open to meeting new muzak fans!
