A lovely Civil War era instrumental from the album, "Songs From the Mountain" released in 1998. Dirk Powell, Tim O'Brien, and John Herrmann wanted to stay true to the Appalachian roots of the mountains and did an incredible job of this on their album.
These three musicians were so taken with the book, 'Cold Mountain' by Charles Frazier, that they wanted to make a companion cd. This is prior to both the movie and the movie soundtrack for 'Cold Mountain'. The album is filled with authentic music you could hear throughout the mountains during the Civil War period and before. You can hear it now if you are extremely lucky. Enjoy the past and now the future! "Songs From the Mountain" is an enduring testament to the music of the Appalachians. ENJOY!!!

Nothing as lovely as an old timey fiddle with a banjo or piano accompaniment. Wonderful tune. If Claire Deschutes was a woman, she must have been quite exquisite to have inspired playing such as this.11 years ago

I have been researching the song since I saw your comment, just a bit ago. Some of the songs on the album are traditional, and others are written by the artists. "O'Brien's sole original is "Claire Dechutes," a gloriously haunting piano-fiddle waltz with Herrmann's mandolin chiming away in the background." This sure isn't much for you, but it's the best I could find. Any of Tim O'Brien's work is outstanding. If you like go to my Channel & type in Tim O'Brien! He has wonderful stuff!!!11 years ago
