Original song on THE SMITHS album is capo on 2nd but tuned a bit sharp I believe. If you want to sound exactly like the Hatful of Hollow version, it's simply capo on the 2nd fret.

Marr often tuned up a tone. The same effect can be got from playing in standard tuning with a capo on the second fret.

I think it's because Johnny often tuned his guitar to an open chord. I read an interview where he said he played This Charming Man in Open F# tuning. Most people on youtube play it in standard tuning so thats probably why it looks different!

No it's probably about 90% Although the playing is great, this like all the other versions on YouTube are playing the intro wrong, it's seems everyone on youtube are copying the players on here instead of Johnny himself. Watch /watch?v=b5Urt5l9ZHI at 44 secs, Johnny plays the intro on the G & B strings, everyone on youtube plays it lower down the fretboard on the E & B strings.
