I have known about this compilation since high school but for whatever reason only paid any mind to "I am the cosmos" and "you and your sister." But, after having watched "nothing can hurt me," the Big Star documentary available on Netflix, my fascination with Bell's music was soon reignited. This song in particular. While the synths in the middle sort of feel out of place, those bongos are so damned appropriate with that sweet singing. And it, like so many of the songs included in this compilation, illustrates that the sound of Big Star on that first record had a lot more to do with Bell's contribution than anyone in music journalism at the time recognized, which apparently had a lot to do with why Bell ultimately left the band.

Just got a copy of " i am the cosmos " put it in my little cd player, Truth is i wasn't sure what to think at first. but it did not take long to start playing it over and over on repeat. What honest sincere song writing. this will be a gem for years to come for me
