Sheila (of Sheila and B Devotion) the famous French star recorded her own version (entitled Condition Féminine) but the single was never released. She did sing it once on TV though (at l'ecole des fans).

A bit of research tells me that Celine recorded this in 1983 as part of the album 'Chants et contes de Noël', Bucks Fizz had a hit with this in Xmas 1981, so it would seem that they were first. (wikepedia)
