The reason, Carrie was doing this duet with Lauren, because this is segment, where Lauren was asked which Idol, she want to sing with it and she picked Carrie and Lauren was even able to choose the song. And Carrie is so good, she lower her power vocals to make sure Lauren would stand out. Carrie wasn't promoting anything at the time.

@VanilleAlistair Carrie always looks happy to be on the AI stage. She is not ashamed that she got her start from there and I love that about her. Other Idol winners have tried to distance themselves from the show which I think is just stupid. But Carrie has never done that. She embraces it and I think that's wonderful.

They could keep American Idol on for another 10 years, and no one will ever top Carrie Underwood. Lauren definitely struggled with this song. Thankfully it was a duet with Carrie to drown her out a bit.
