Carlos Gardel (born Charles Romuald Gardes; 11 December 1890 -- 24 June 1935) was a singer, songwriter, composer and actor, and is perhaps the most prominent figure in the history of tango. The unerring musicality of Gardel's baritone voice and the dramatic phrasing of his lyrics made miniature masterpieces of his hundreds of three-minute tango recordings. Together with lyricist and long-time collaborator Alfredo Le Pera, Gardel wrote several classic tangos. The bandoneon was a favorite instrument at the time.
Gardel died in an airplane crash at the height of his career, becoming an archetypal tragic hero mourned throughout Latin America. For many, Gardel embodies the soul of the tango style. He is commonly referred to as "Carlitos", "El Zorzal" (The Song Thrush), "The King of Tango", "El Mago" (The Magician) and "El Mudo" (The Mute).
In 1934 Astor Piazolla met Carlos Gardel, one of the most important figures in the history of tango, who invited the young bandoneón player to join him on his current tour. Much to Piazzolla's dismay, his father decided that he was not old enough to go along, although the following year he did play a cameo role as a young paper boy in Gardel's movie El día que me quieras [1]. This early disappointment of not being allowed to join the tour proved to be a blessing in disguise, as it was on this tour that Gardel and his entire orchestra perished in a plane crash in 1935.
Other famous names in the tango world: Gotan Project Mariano Mores, Alfredo de Angelis, Carlos Dante, Julio Martel, Jorge Casal and Astor Piazolla. Famous tango's: El dia que me quieras Por Una Cabeza, Adios Muchachos, La Cumparsita, El Choclo, Camenito, Volver, Cuesta Abajo, Remembranzas, Libertango, Tango to Evora, a Media Luz
Lyrics: VOLVER
