I. Se la mia morte brami

Se la mia morte brami

Crudel, lieto ne moro

E dopo morte ancor te solo adoro

Ma se vuoi ch'io non t'ami,

Ahi, che a pensarlo solo

Il duol m'ancide e l'alma fugge a volo.

anyone here after watching "true story"? ...what a beautiful song. although I did the research and it seems this man killed only his wife and the man that she cheated on him with.. documentation from official sources proving he killed their child was never found as the movie made mention of. I do wonder though if he composed this song before or after the murders considering he never faced punishment for them.

this piece, like all of his works, is richly textured, lush, plaintive... these words pale in comparison to the music. absolutely gorgeous.

He was not mad at all: he murdered both his wife and the count Carafa because they had an affair. And he fleed from Naples not because the law would punish him but not to instigate further hatred between their families.

well, Gesualdo is not typically Renaissance composer. He was mad: I think he murderesd his wife. he was saved from the Inquisition just because he was a nobleman.

It seems to me an important initiative and guessed. Personally I prefer the madrigals of Palestrina, Luca Marenzio and I hope that the initiative is taken identical
