Most people don't get how hard it was to record a black metal song back in the day, when you didn't have all these IpeEds and shmellphones.... you had to get your own answering machines to record, go into the woods, all by yourself, to find the best tree bark to burn to song to (after it was mastered of course, by the best D&D dungeon master in the town library), after which you fed it to some crows who then shat it in a mold in the shape of a cassette tape. It was grueling work, and of course, you had to do all this WHILE playing drums, or else it didn't count. If you dared to make a continuous album with fluid track, you actually had to do the beat-matching manually, and considering BM and MDMA don't mix at all (trust me, don't, just don't..... not kvlt at all), it was a hard time.

I saw this video on MTV in 1996, in the night metal program "Headbanger's Ball". Seems like another age, one in which there was enough freedom of speech to broadcast a video like this content on a channel like MTV. All gone now.

Ein großartiger Song. Vielleicht der beste Black Metal Song aller Zeiten und der Clip passt auch wie die Faust aufs Auge. Man mag zu Vikernes stehen wie man will aber er schafft es mit simplen Mitteln großartige Musik zu zaubern. Ich will nicht bestreiten das mich Burzum bei meinen Bandprojekten maßgeblich beeinflußt hat. Der Typ hat zwar einen Knall aber er ist ein musikalisches Genie. Das muss man nicht verstehen.
