Froggie went a-courtin', and he did ride, mm-hmm

Froggie went a-courtin, and he did ride,

A sword and pistol by his side, mm-hmm

He went down to Missy Mousie's door,

Went to Missy Mousie's door,

Where he had been many times before, mm-hmm

"Missy Mouse, are you within?", mm-hmm,

"Missy Mouse, are you within?"

"Yes, kind sir, I sit and spin," mm-hmm

Took Missy Mouse upon his knee, mm-hmm,

Took Missy Mouse upon his knee

Said, "Missy Mouse, will you marry me?", mm-hmm,

"Without my Uncle Rat's consent," mm-hmm,

"Without my Uncle Rat's consent,

"I wouldn't marry the President," mm-hmm

Uncle Rat laughed and shook his fat sides, mm-hmm,

Uncle Rat laughed and shook his fat sides,

To think his niece would be a bride, mm-hmm,

When Uncle Rat gave his consent, mm-hmm,

When Uncle Rat gave his consent,

The weasel wrote the publishment, mm-hmm

Next came in was a bumble bee, mm-hmm,

Next came in was a bumble bee,

Danced a jig with a two-legged flea, mm-hmm

The owl did hoot and the birds they sang, mm-hmm,

The owl did hoot and the birds they sang,

And through the woods the music rang, mm-hmm

Where will the wedding breakfast be, mm-hmm,

Where will the wedding breakfast be,

He went down yonder in a hollow tree. mm-hmm

What will the wedding breakfast be, mm-hmm,

What will the wedding breakfast be,

Two green beans and a black-eyed pea, mm-hmm

They all went sailin' across the lake, mm-hmm,

All went sailin' across the lake,

And all got swallowed up by a big, black snake, mm-hmm

There's bread and cheese upon the shelf, mm-hmm,

There's bread and cheese upon the shelf,

If you want anymore, you can sing it yourself, mm-hmm

Our beloved school librarian, Mrs. Barth, used to sing this to us when I was in second grade, around 1974. One day, a classmate of mine, who was the younger brother of a famous television star, turned to me afterwards and commented, "That's a long song." Thirty-eight years ago, and I can still remember it.

very nice folksy rendition of a kid's song. May I ask if you have The Ninety and Nine by Burl Ives (NOT the Ninety Nine song which is different) which he sang in the intro to the Western movie Gun Glory and can you please upload it if you do? Thanks

Burl Ives wrote a book called "A stranger and a pilgrim" back in the 40's. I believe it is a really interestin book on music. He said that opera is the real thing, but it is about European folk music and culture. He went on that American folk doesn't have the equivalent storys to tie the music together. However, the Grand Old Opry has helped some in that area.

@Lisnageeragh That's Tony Mottola playing the guitar on this particular version. Burl recorded a live version of this song on his 1953 album "Coronation Concert" in London England where he did the guitar playing himself. He did a fine job as well, but Tony does an outstanding job on this recording.

We had this album at home when I was a kid. I recall lying on the floor in front of our stereo which was a HUGE wooden cabinet that held a radio and a turntable. I sang along while Dad napped on the chesterfield after supper. Good times. Great memories. Thanks!
