I hate the the albums second verse is replaced on here. It might be the greatest verse ever written by the greatest of all time!

The magic happens at 5:00 with the picture transition combined with the additional guitar riff. Ultra cool pic and ultra cool guitar part perfectly together.

I prefer this take to the released version. The alternate verse and the mix are superior, imho. Great song, regardless.

Bullshit - this song isn't about some utilitarian, mediocre, cry-me-a-river-and-give-me-a-kiss-on-the-cheek idea of human injustice. It's psychological, bud. Go take your levelling of art elsewhere.

GREAT SPRINGSTEEN TUNE! The harmonica solo is killer - total brain candy!

I choose this as the most underrated song he's ever written. Nothing captures the essence of Bruce like this song. The River album has accompanied me in life and is his magnum opus. I still get choked up when I listen to this recording.

The "additional' verse is really an "alternate" verse. This verse replaced the verse that begins with the lines "Now they'd come so far and they'd waited so long Just to end up caught in a dream where everything goes wrong". Don't know if there is a recorded version, live or studio, where ALL of the existing verses are present or not.

Can anyone 24 years old today write the kind of music and songs that he did when he was that age? Bruce is clearly the greatest song writer in Rock history.

I bought this album 30 years ago but, this song left a feeling in me that will always remember. There are so many experiences that this seems to speak to. Not long after, the Space Shuttle was destroyed during launch. I thought could that have been the price they paid for the ambition to become astronauts. I went through a divorce a few years ago. I paid a price for that decision.
