As much I adore Bernadette Peters, but I wanted punch her in the face, and kick her in the stomach when she disapprove Cinderella and insult her father.

The step-mother is always jealous type who don't believe in dreams at all.

Bro, 2:46 absolutely breaks my heart. Look at how she's smiling. That's the most genuine smile we see on the stepmother's face the ENTIRE MOVIE. And that's not even mentioning WHAT she's smiling at. She's smiling at her girls, all of them, with Cinderella INCLUDED. I really do think they could have been a family if the stepmother had sorted out her own problems that were briefly touched in this song and in Falling In Love With Love.I feel like she does care about Cinderella. She doesn't have to keep her there (since she's already of age) and the most she's done (from what I remember) is yell and make her do excessive amounts of chores. While that's still shitty, it's a lot better than what she could have done. Kicking Cinderella out to fend for herself or physical abuse were things she could have done without much consequences given the time period. She seems to care about Cinderella, but something is keeping her from embracing her as an actual daughter. Perhaps it's Cinderella reminding her of her late husband? In Falling In Love With Love she states that she fell in love, but love fell out with her. Maybe she's not talking about her first husband, but her second? How they just got together and were going to join their families and live happily ever after when he went and died on her. Maybe in the stepmother's eyes the only way to keep Cinderella (and the memory of her father) is to keep her down.Maybe she doesn't want her to leave her like her father did, but expresses this in a cruel and selfish way she doesn't use with her biological daughters.

Questionable Life Choices

hm, yeah i guess that's true. but this is still called "rogers and hammerstein's cinderella." the disney cinderella had already been around for 40+ years

huh?? That's a poor argument. Disney produced this version of the Rogers and Hammerstein musical, but if you're claiming that because they didn't write the original story, that doesn't make it Disney, then NO Disney princess is really a Disney princess, because they are all adaptations of historic fairy tales and legends.

Questionable Life Choices

this cinderella isn't created by disney, it's rogers and hammerstein. disney might have produced this adaption, but julie andrews was in the original production and the grimm brothers wrote the original (well, the most well known original)
