I was a piano player for a band years ago and the other band mates couldn't or would not do this song. I would start with the opening chords, but nothing else. I hate musicians that are lack luster with no passion to really rock and roll. I also played guitar strapped on while playing piano to help with when needed.

I was a 10th grader when this song was playing on the radio...the introduction alone would get me going, then Boz's unique vocals would cause this voice within me to say "YEAH!" As I continued listening to the song, I would be taken to such a wonderful place...ah, memories. Too bad that today's songs do not have that effect on me.

The drummer is not Jeff Porcaro but Rick Marotta, who played "Peg" of Steely Dan. Jeff's groove, or his timing of the snare drum, is a little bit behind the beat like "Lido Shuffle", while Rick's groove of this song is a little bit ahead of the beat. And the lead guitarist is Steve Lukather without doubt. In his 1st instructional video Luke demonstrated the solo part of this song.

When I was a kid in the early 80s I always thought is song was sung by someone that was African-American. I didn't know who Boz Scaggs was then, but it really didn't matter because I always loved this song then and now. Breakdown was the perfect song for the early 80s. For me it brings back so many memories of those youthful times. Oh to be that age again, if only for a few moments. Enjoy your youth kids, it'll be over before you know it.
