There was much debate at the time of this songs release regarding why it didn't chart better. Most people said it was because Boy George was going overboard with his look and makeup and androgyny and overall excess (style over substance with the video). But it really wasnt any of that. It may have played a part, but in late 1984, Culture Club was not in the publics good graces, for a variety of reasons. Their music and overall essence was deemed uneccessary and mediocre and trivial and they became a cultural pariah, similar to Justin Bieber. Furthermore, the public became exhausted with trying to understand something they never would comprehend, so they were thrown by the wayside; not to mention the "Waking Up" album was pretty substandard.
