GREAT live band. In 78/79 they were pretty much untouchable.

@ Paul Dunne - you may choose to be offensive, but the Boomtown Rats were incredibly influential. In the 1970s and early 1980s music was all young Dubliners had and the Rats, in their Dandelion Market heyday, were incredibly good. Sure, some of their lyrics were tuned to the UK market, but go listen to Rat Trap - the best anthem of Dublin youth in the late 1970s - and tell me if you still think they're anything other than pure Dublin.

and the starnge thing is none of the other bands members reaction to punk is ever quoted by these punk authors.they definitely changed to mainstream later,as did the clash, ramones(baby i love you.....jaysus...),leighton buzzards(modern romance!!!!)subway sect etc etc.long live morans hotel, the vipers, revolver, boy scoutz, sinners, the spies, neu belsen and the other great dublin punk bands.

up til quite recently punk books etc slagged the arts for not really being punk based on sir(?)bobs comments at the time saying her was using punk to reach fame and fortune and find girls and money.Rubbish.geldof was playing the scene just like lydon when he dressed up in ted gear when punks were being attacked by teds in london, manchester, dublin etc etc.slag off punk just when it's getting popular, cause more agnst(as it did with me hating him for ages).

Thanks for the tip-off Alan. Unfortunately I don't live in the UK any more so I couldn't see it, but I appreciate the thought. Cheers, Tim

geldof, you were too quick to slag off punk and then dis assemble what was initially a great punk band, saying you only used punk etc etc.it used you sir bob then spat you out,and is still going.pity about the rest of the band who didnt see punk like you did.were great early on,playing one or two small clubs and hotels in dublin with bands like the vipers, revolver, the gamblers, the radiators, the gravediggers, the sinners, fit kilkenny and the remoulds etc.

forgot how entertaining bob geldoff n the rest of the boomtown rats really were back then lol. To think of what he has achieved thru band aid etc. And all the lives he has saved! He is a legend in his own right.
