I think this is a cover of the Bangles cover... and like "the telephone game", they seem to lose a little of the song each time. Ok, true, it gets louder every time, and that's generally a good thing... but they lost a little of what made S&G's great and the Bangles really cool. Not my favorite version (I'm covering this at a show in a couple of weeks, and haven't quite decided how I'm playing it... so I have to hear every cover).

Was just listening to the *fantastic* cover by Nirvana of David Bowie's 'The Man Who Sold The World'. And it reminded me of my all time favourite cover. Bodyjar's version of Simon and Garfunkel's classic 'Hazy Shade of Winter'. It's so much better if you have a listen to the original first.

I nearly forgot how much i love this cover! Was this originally recorded for Triple J's home and hosed or like a version? I remember first hearing it on the radio in one of their segments but it was sooo long ago :)

Apparently you have no idea how to make lasagne, or how to spell it....look up a lasagne recipe and maybe then you will understand how complicated a dish lasagne is to make, and how if you were to make said dish with just meat sauce, cheese and pasta, then you couldn't call the monstrosity that emerged from your oven lasagne either.

Haha Xandersun - I gave your comment a like due to your excellent literacy. Do you have a blog I could follow? :D

What happened to the entire "seasons change with the scenery, etc." refrain? I have to say that is a crucial contrast and juxtaposition in the entire song, that gives it its emotional impact. This is a decent piece, but you can't call it "Hazy Shade of Winter" if you don't have the wherewithal, gumption, or talent to deal with an essential portion of a song, so that you just ignore it. I'm sure meat sauce and cheese still tastes good, but without pasta, you can't call it lasagna.

Good cover job here-a nice straightforward punk take on the epic Bangles' classic. I think they went a bit too fast though, since it sounds a little rushed and breathless ; the Bangles got it just right and you can't beat their harmonies on it. Dave.

hmmm... I think some people are analysing/criticising this song too much. :P I think it's just a fun energetic cover of an all-time classic. I appreciate that a 'punk rock' band would show tribute to an amazing melody :)

seen them play it 3 or 4 times live, bodyjar are very good live, especially considering how old they all are now, last saw them about 2 months ago at the espy

Obviously we're listening to two different songs. This song blew me away years ago and it's great to re-visit it again. I feel that Bodyjar really make this their own. I don't find it plain at all. I don't know what you mean "These days" either. This recording is fairly old. Projecting your disdain for modern music onto your listening experience perhaps?

This is not bad, it can't really be bad can it, since the song itself (S+G) is such an amazing song, but really, this is not a patch on the Bangles' version. At least the Bangles took a song and made it their own, giving it that much more rocky and edgy flavour. This is just a bit plain...no movement. Metal by numbers. It's all just one level....both musically and in the sense that it's been squashed (compressed) to death, something that of course is depressingly common these days.
