This is a beautiful love song with a bite, a quiet blues with a street-wise narrative, a dreamy ballad with a lurking darkness, a doo-wop with a do-drop-in-your-grave meanness. I especially like the way that the sweet melody contrasts with lyrics like "Two-Timing Slim, . . . I'll drag his corpse through the mud." I suppose that's Bob up to his old tricks, keeping the listener guessing and, now and then, driving him quite mad. Talk about the agony and the ecstasy.
