Caught a ride into south dakota

With two girls in a light blue desoto

Ones name was jane, the other was plain

But they both had racing motors

Next I caught a ride with a gamblers wife

Lay down, she had a brand new rambler

She parked on the other side of town

She layed the rambler down

She said she could dig if Id knew her

Doing my best to get back to you

Aint nothing Id rather do

Look for me sunday, gonna be there honey

Something special just for you

Special just for you

Made a truck stop, toothpick and water

Got a ride from a fruit pickers daughter

Drove her through the night, let the fruit just right

Said all I could eat for a quarter

Next, hopped a train with a hobo woman

Said shes from texas too

The way that she did, what she did, when she did what she did to me

Made me think of you

Hey honey made me think of you

Doing my best to get back to you

Aint nothing Id rather do

Look for me sunday, gonna be there honey

Something special just for you

Special just for you

Hey honey something special just for you

Next I caught a ride with a gambler's wife, she had a rag-roof lay down Rambler, she parked outside of town, laid the Rambler down, she sais she sure could dig it if I rode her.... Let the fruit just rot.

man, i had my mom buy me this album and take me to see the movie when i was like 9 or 10yrs old...i havent listened to this song in many yrs...always was my favorite on the album...that snl band was tight as hell and akroyd and belushi damn near transcended their comedic roots

Delbert McClinton had a moment of Genius when he wrote this. I rode all the way from LA to Charlotte with Jake and Elwood...On my Stereo. I kept looking for a "Lay Down Rambler" That was 1988. I dream this song and that trip.
