Singer, pianist, & songwriter Blossom Dearie, who was born #OTD in 1924, blurred the lines between cabaret & jazz with her fresh demeanor & needling wit #MusicTheoryForBeginners #BlossomDearie

She brings such effortless, womanly, insouciance to the finale duet...I love generous partners who don't have to hog...

Where on Earth have I been that I haven't discovered this Amazing Lady until now? I knew of her name from the ABC Saturday Morning School House Rock segment she did, "Figure Eight." I also believe she did a commercial for Canada Dry's Wink soda. I think I've just fallen in love with her. What a fantastic Jazz performer AND she plays piano too, which I didn't know. This is what is so great about YouTube- so many fans posting their music favorites and people like me get to "discover" a new favorite! Thanks so much for this!

Check out her "Some Other Time," the very best version of the song, ever.

Great tribute to John Lewis from Modern Jazz Quartet. Several lines in the blues improv are almost direct quotes from MJQ's Bluesology, and overall the style is Lewis's to a tee.

If you've reached a certain age, you remember Dearie as the voice of "Figure Eight" from ABC's old Multiplication Rock shorts. Not her jazziest turn, but officially likely to have been one of the first jazz singers I ever heard. <3
