such happy music, i love it. its fun to sing JD's part too, it isn't too low for him so its fun for a good bass.

London was on of the best "low" bass singers but he was not even close to JD.

jmcinvale, i agree 1000% with you on that. i was blessed to see him and The Stamps apprx 1990 when i was 12 and he went so low on ,"Rainbow of Love" it was below my ear's hearing range but we felt it more powerful than a F-14 Tomcat. i know that because in 1990 with the cold war not quite over and living in VA Beach under the flight path of Oceana Naval Air Base it was constant take off and landing and JD got lower than jet engines. wow

Here, JD was just trying to do a favor for the guy he knew would replace him as bass (for a while.) A bass needs to learn microphone technques due to the mid picjup pattern. That pattern was also why JD's voice sounded different a few years late - modern mics have cardiood pattersn whcih can bring out the lowest tones better than the real old days.

I think as he got older his voice got deeper.

Yes, Whitey is the pianist. London is the guy that barges in thinking he can best JD before he fails.

is it me or did JD have a different quality in his voice in post Blackwood years. example: Masters V or Elvis days.

I wish some one would download the newer version of J D Sumner singing with The Blackwood Brothers, Hide Me Rock of Ages. It was on here for several months, but has been removed.

James Blackwood: Little guy, big talent.

@gospellover Too funny. To go along with the singing mics you would need a piano that plays itself.

Great harmony with James and Bill's voices when the three non-bass parts sang together.
