I do think it's influenced by the Picture of Dorian Gray. For me, the song is about the oftentimes solipsistic and narcissistic nature of depression: "Nothing is real but the way that I feel", "flashes of lightning that burn for only me", etc. And it is called "Self Portrait" after all...
