Jim "Dandy" Mangrum and Ruby Starr ham it up onstage in this 1976 clip. And, yes -- you didn't imagine it -- that was James Brown at the beginning introducing the band!

The song Fistful of Love appeared on BOA's album Balls of Fire.

My sister turned me on to BOA way back in the '70's. The first time I heard Jim Dandy's voice I thought of the Bugs Bunny cartoon "Hillbilly Hare" and the scene where the two hillbillies are looking for Bugs and one says to to the other "that there rabbit critter's bound to be around here somewhere on accounta I sees his footyprints".

They get to be intro'd by JB... How cool is that?

buy the BOA boxset....£10 for 5 CDs of which 4 are absolutely fantastic - so much better than you'd imagine.....tight band, great guitar, madcap vocals and so many varied styles....nothing like other Southern bands at all

You just don't get performers like this anymore - in the North of England you're not going to see this but thank the Lord for Youtube x

RUBY STAR was a "star" that went dim way too soon. Saw her many, many times 30 years ago when she was traveling with "Grey-Star". Loved her & miss her voice.

Jimmy Henderson eventually went back to Mississippi and owned a recording studio. He's a preacher now, or so I'm told.
