American singer Billy Murray singing In The Good Old Summertime. Edison Records

Lyrics.......

There's a time each year

That we always hold dear,

Good old summer time;

With the birds and the trees'es

And sweet scented breezes,

Good old summer time,

When you day's work is over

Then you are in clover,

And life is one beautiful rhyme,

No trouble annoying,

Each one is enjoying,

The good old summer time.

In the good old summer time,

In the good old summer time,

Strolling thru' a shady lane

With your baby mine.

You hold her hand and she holds yours,

And that's a very good sign

That she's your tootsie wootsie

In the good, old summer time.

To swim in the pool,

You's play "hooky" from school

Good old summer time;

You play "ring-a rosie"

With Jim, Kate and Josie,

Good old summer time,

Those days full of pleasure

We now fondly treasure,

When we never thought it a crime

To stealing cherries,

With faces brown as berries,

Good old summer time.

In the good old summer time,

In the good old summer time,

Strolling thru' a shady lane

With your baby mine.

You hold her hand and she holds yours,

And that's a very good sign

That she's your tootsie wootsie

In the good, old summer time

I love it! Those day the ice cream truck came around, you could get McNess pie fillings from the McNess man arriving in his big truck too.

According to the net, this recording was made in 1902, is it so?

Antique shops will be your best bet, although I haven't seen any in the ones I've been to, although I live in a small town...

Thanks. I'm also looking for his old cylinders as I'm going to buy an Edison Talking Machine.

I came upon a Billy Murray CD on Amazon: some recordings of his made between 1902-1940, if you're still looking for his music.

It is probably 1904 or 1905. Not to say that it wasn't also recorded in 1902; maybe even by someone else. Cylinder masters wore out fairly quickly, so later retakes were the norm. Different announcers were used in very early molded cylinders. This one is Edward Meeker. If Michael Jackson was the King of Pop, Murray was the Father of Pop. He just never got the much deserved credit for his work, including a staggering output of recvords, as did Elvis, Beatles, Madonna, or Jackson did.

Just discovered Billy Murray, he was like the Frank Sinatra of the early 20th century. I've already started looking for an Edison talking machine and some of his records. Man there is nothing like a good Irish tenor.
