Unfulfilled potential. The piano man soothes the souls of the individuals in the bar as they escape their fleeting mundane lives and jobs if only for a brief while. It's also a throwback to days when you were younger and felt like you could take on the world. A very bittersweet track but one of my favourites from Billy Joel and has to be up there in music history as one of the finest songs ever written. Even the customers themselves ask the Piano Man: "Man what are you doing here?" as they believe he could be performing at a prestigious venue. Yes they're sharing a drink they call loneliness.But it's better than drinking alone. Love those lyrics. Hearing this song live from the man himself would be incredible and I hope to do just that someday.
