Nice version of Scotsman Eric Bogles song, subsequently hijacked by militarists. Lyric changed by Billy to remove dreams of freedom for dreams of glory unfulfilled.

" Veröffentlicht am 17.03.2012 von Johnson28316 When I played this during an interview on Cairns FM89.1 Eric asked me if I had heard Mary Black sing the song. When I said I hadn't he said her version was far better as a woman can put more emotion into a song. " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I agree with Eric Bogle - I like the version of Mary Black most!

"An Irish sky looks down and weeps Upon the narrow Belfast streets At children's blood in gutters spilled In dreams of glory unfulfilled As part of freedom's price to pay My youngest son came home today" He is clearly talking about the Irish side when talking of freedom's price to pay

@psychedelicfreakout1 It was written by Eric Bogle! It is specifically about the Troubles in Northern Ireland in the 1970s. He seemingly doesn't specify which side the dead son was on because it is about the futility of all the deaths rather than a support of any of the sides.

When I hear words that end with "-ism" "-archy" or "ocracy" I feel fear. Symbols and Ideologies are ways to divide "us" from "them" and the usual outcome is brutal slaughter. I want to make my own symbols to represent my own ideas. I want my own culture, my own truth, my own God, my own hope. And I hope you find your own. Because all of theirs have failed, again and again.

This song was played by a Polish folk-punk band Swiat Czarownic back in the 1990s
