Great rendition!I was surprised to learn this song was written in 1965! I thought it was MUCH older. It was written by Nickolas Ashford, Valerie Simpson, (a/k/a Ashford & Simpson) and Josephine Armstead. And originally recorded by "The Coasters".I love the internet. And I love youtube. :-)

Before this era early jazz was created off the back of opium an drug fuelled artists ,not that she ever was, just get off your high ground fucking idiots with out a lot of drugs in music it would not have been made in the first place,

This is my favorite singer and Stronger Than Dirt is my favorite album. I was raised on country and the Beatles...all very good stuff, mind you. But my mom bought this record at a Goodwill or tag sale and brought it home and I went through all her albums one day when I was 16 and bored to see if there was anything decent in there and I found Big Mama, changed my entire outlook on music and people who get paid to sing.I played the album over and over, I couldn't stop. It was so good it hit me like a freight train. I love this woman and always will. Singers with big voices are fine but I've never heard anything like Big Mama, never. And never will again. So thank you to DutchBluesfan for posting this because I still have the album (my mom is gone and I got her records) but I don't have a record player!
