They all rap different topics, Jay Z- becoming head honcho, Nas- observes and raps about the world around him, and has a total different sound, Big L- gangster rapper with wittier word play if not deeper meaning than either of them. All equal in my book but not similar to the point of being a watered down version. " Reasonable Doubt" "Illmatic" and L. Styles of the Poor and Infamous dont sound alike. Those are all three's debut albums. Jays and Nas first might be the best albums of all time.

Jay and L are peers and friends, L was just way more advanced at the time. Not to mention there rhyme schemes and subject matter are different. I think Eminems rhyme schems bite Ls a lot more with the intricacy and timing of punchlines. Em even admits it one song " sprinkle a Lil Big L on top and look what you got" naming his influences.

I put my younger friends on to Big L and they think hes wack. There too dumb to recognize the genius of wordplay and incredible natural talent.
