Though in part this song is very much based on Clementine's personal experience of being bullied (something that also deeply traumatised me when growing up) - Benjamin also said this of the song; "I certainly am very fortunate that I am not experiencing what the people in Syria are experiencing, but I think it all comes down to one thing, and that is bullying. The Americans and the English, we bully people. In the song the reason why it's a phantom, is that we can't see the reason. Not seeing the reason, not seeing why we get bullied, is basically the phantom."...Clementine is the only artist I can listen to right now, no living person even comes close. Jaques Brel, Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, Bowie, Lou Reed, Barbara (the French singer) - are all favourites of mine but all are dead. Benjamin keeps the spirit alive!
