Tom Trenny, the organist in this recording, is one of the best in the world. What he does with this hymn is so touching and beautiful. Some might think it is difficult to follow. But, those who know First-Plymouth and its musical tradition know that with that choir and that congregation the organist can work all sorts of musical magic and no one will be confused. It is oh so glorious!

Here's lyrics using Finlandia from the Unitarian Universalist hymnal:This is my song, O God of all the nations,a song of peace for lands afar and mine;this is my home, the country where my heart is;here are my hopes, my dreams, my holy shrine:but other hearts in other lands are beatingwith hopes and dreams as true and high as mine.My country's skies are bluer than the ocean, and sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine;but other lands have sunlight too, and clover, and skies are everywhere as blue as mine:O hear my song, thou God of all the nations,a song of peace for their land and for mine.We sang this after 9/11.

Hello there in Nebraska. Quite bold to use Jean Sibelius for your hymn. Here in Finland he isan national tresuare, but I liked your version of old Sibbe.Do you know that he had composed a few hymnes before here in Finland.

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.Leave to thy God to order and provide; In every change, He faithful will remain.Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heav’nly FriendThrough thorny ways leads to a joyful end.Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertakeTo guide the future, as He has the past.Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake; All now mysterious shall be bright at last.Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still knowHis voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below.Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart,And all is darkened in the vale of tears,Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repayFrom His own fullness all He takes away.Be still, my soul: the hour is hast’ning onWhen we shall be forever with the Lord. When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.Be still, my soul: when change and tears are pastAll safe and blessed we shall meet at last.Be still, my soul: begin the song of praiseOn earth, believing, to Thy Lord on high;Acknowledge Him in all thy words and ways,So shall He view thee with a well-pleased eye.Be still, my soul: the Sun of life divineThrough passing clouds shall but more brightly shine.

Not certain what the organist is trying to accomplish-this is being sung as a congregational hymn, not an anthem-difficult for them to follow.

I always thought that this hymn had a very good progression.
